Colombo, September 9 (Daily Mirror) - Kandy police have launched an investigation into a pre-wedding photoshoot involving actor Devnaka Porage and musical artist Hashini Wedanda at the Sri Dalada Maligawa.

It was reported that a pre-shoot had taken place at the Sri Dalada Maligawa, causing offense to the temple. Police officers at the temple had reportedly advised the crew to stop the shoot, but a person claiming to be a senior figure had arrived and instructed them to continue.

The shoot took place in various locations within the temple grounds, including the 'Hevisi Mandapaya.' Photos from the event circulated on social media, with many calling it disrespectful and an insult to the Sacred Tooth Relic.

Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela claimed that he informed the police after learning about the incident. Reports also suggest that the police had advised the photographer to visit the Kandy police station to give a statement.

Several Buddhist organizations expressed concern, warning that such actions could cause a negative impact on the public and calling for legal action against those involved.

There are people in charge at these places. If they had gone through the proper chain of command in getting the permission, I guess this wouldn't have come to this. Although these are public-owned places, you can't act as you wish. Similar to the fact that you can't drive on the Sri Lankan roads on the right-hand side (unless of course you're the driver of a minister). There are written and unwritten laws we need to adhere to when in public. There are people in charge at these places, and if they had followed the proper chain of command to obtain permission, I suppose it wouldn't have come to this. Even though these are publicly owned places, you can't behave however you like. It's similar to how you can't drive on the right-hand side of the road in Sri Lanka (unless, of course, you're a minister's driver). There are both written and unwritten rules we must follow when in public.

Wedding is not a modeling show , this is #1 should remember all . If you want have a modeling show better you do modeling rather than taking a model show at scared places. you have freedom to do what you want to do but without harming to believes of majority and social believes. This must be applicable for any other religious and scared . Some religions can accept it some dont. Both are correct. Do what socially accepted. Automatically become a loyal person to society and county.

They are appropriately dressed to visit the Dalada Maligawa. If there is any prohibition to take photos inside and outside the Maligawa proper notices must be posted informing the visitors/devotees. I cannot see any wrong. The Maligawa officials have faulted in requesting the young couple to attend Police and give their statements. This is harassment. If the photos are viewed by foreigners that could work as a catalyst to get them to visit Kandy

This is a religious place . Yes they can take a pre shoot - but else where . Imagine all couples come there for a pre shoot - not appropriate. Religious places should be left for people to pray . Just silly of the couple

Why such a fuss? Why don't we let people live happily? Few decades ago it was prohibited to take photos inside Dambulla temple. Once a tourist mistakenly took photo and a Buddhist monk jumped on him and smashed the camera on the floor. Few years later the same temple started to sell special tickets for taking photograph. What a hypocrisy?

The issue is that , with AI tools, you can place any location in the background. Dalada Maligawa is a sacred place and a marriage is a sacred activity, so a photo with Maligawa in the background may have been done to signify that their marriage is sacred . People from all over the world visit Dalada Maligawa and take photos with the Maligawa in the background. They take photos as souvenir for the visit. A photo could be considered as disrespectful if clothing or the pose is vulgar. But in this case , they are wearing full white fully covered clothes. But , some guidelines should be available including permission to avoid misuse.
