Is Ali Sabry still the Finance Minister?

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has not yet accepted the resignation of Ali Sabry as the Finance Minister which then makes him the Minister of Finance even to this day, sources in the government told Daily Mirror today.

Sabry was appointed to the post earlier this week with three other ministers but handed in his resignation letter to the President a day later saying he had accepted the portfolio only as an interim measure and if the President wishes to appoint a suitable person to handle the situation from outside the current Parliament, he was also willing to step down from his parliamentary seat.

However, despite handing in the letter, President Rajapaksa has to this day not accepted the resignation making him then the Finance Minister even to this day.

Sources said that Sabry is also tipped to continue as the Finance Minister when the new cabinet is sworn in next week and will then leave for the IMF with the new economic advisory committee appointed by the President this week. (JAMILA HUSAIN)
