Former Member of Parliament J. R. P. Suriyapperuma passed away at the age of 96, hospital sources said.
He was the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) chief organiser for the Dedigama electorate in the Kegalle District.

He was a knowledgeable person whose birthplace was Dompe and was the first graduate from Dompe electorate. Initially started politics from Dudley's UNP and even contested Atatanagalla electorate from the UNP in 1970. However, had a rift with JRJ , left the UNP and joined the SLFP. May he attain supreme bliss of nirvana.
