J’Pura Hospital chief accused of violating election laws

Colombo, Septemebr 16 (Daily Mirror) -  The All Ceylon Health Service Union has accused Dr. Saranga Alahapperuma, Chairman of the Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital of making arbitrary recruitments and promotions in violation of election laws.

According to the union's General Secretary Mahinda Guruge, the chairman has been making numerous appointments since the Presidential election was announced without an immediate need to do so.

“Despite numerous requests to suspend the recruitments and promotions, the chairman gave no heed. Therefore, we have informed the Election Commission about the incidents,” Guruge stated.

However, he claims that the Election Commission has not yet taken any action allowing the chairman to continue making political appointments.

When asked for a response, an Election Commission official said they would look into the matter.

Meanwhile, in response to the allegations, Dr. Saranga Alahapperuma told the Daily Mirror that all recruitments and promotions were made according to due processes.

"All the appointments are routine, and nothing has been done outside the established procedures. Further, I have obtained the Commission's approval for the relevant appointments," he said.
