JSA convenes special meeting to address criticisms of Judicial System

Colombo, June 29 (Daily Mirror) - The Judicial Service Association of Sri Lanka (JSASL), the organization representing all the District Court Judges and Magistrates in the country, has decided to call a Special General Meeting tomorrow (30) to discuss unwarranted criticisms directed at the judicial system, the Daily Mirror learns.

It is learnt that this meeting will be held tomorrow in Colombo to discuss the negative impacts of malicious statements against judicial decisions, judges and related issues, following the requests of its members.

The JSASL has called this meeting in light of the speeches made by the Minister of Justice and several other Members of Parliament on l9 June 2024 during a parliamentary debate.

Furthermore, Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe had formally requested the Speaker to summon key officials of the JSA to the Powers and Privileges Committee of Parliament. This request came in response to a statement issued by the JSA, which the Minister alleges has infringed upon his parliamentary privileges.

In a statement, the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) had observed that Members of Parliament should not interfere with the functions of the judiciary or the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) by making statements under the protection of Parliamentary Privileges.

The Lawyers’ Collective, a prominent legal advocacy group in Sri Lanka also maintained that that any allegation against the judiciary must be made in the form of a formal complaint before the appropriate forum and not by way of a statement in the Parliament under the cover of Parliamentary privilege.

Parliament has the authority to do so. You should know your limits and also what action you have taken to get rid of judges who delay cases unnecessarily, judges like nissanka whose verdict was overturn by SC. Also what action you have taken to request modernization of courts. For example use microphones. Nothing right. Not done anything that benefits the people but starts crying when your authority is challenged. Unless you guys modernize and make sure justice is delivered correctly, the future generations will not sit and wait listening to your rubbish. Parliament should pass laws and get rid of all these jokers who talks rubbish.

Politicians particularly those of the ruling party want to manipulate judges to give verdicts favourable to them. That is why, the judiciary should be independent.

The system is very inefficient as cases are taking decades to conclude. 90% of the action for any day is to postpone the case to another day. Lawyers and criminals are the beneficiaries. Lawyers get money, criminals get more free time until the case is concluded.

We don't have an independent judiciary. All the rogues, murderers, rapists and political big thieves were set free for your personal benefit. When whole country knows who robbed us you set them free setting aside all the evidence. It's time parliament clear this mess.

A sure sign of the disintegration of a state - when the Judiciary and its affiliations are up against outlandish utterances and threats from some of the elected MPs. Not a trace of any production in agriculture (except what nature provides) or in industry, where even pins and paper have to be imported from China. Yet, confrontations and confusion galore from top to bottom just as corruption and malpractices. This indeed is a "Land like no other!"

Nonsense, even a Supreme Court Judges are pointed by the President to act according to his COMMAND, they are bloody crooks decrying for any Justice, where is in Sri Lanka really Justice prevailing?
