JVP - FSP clash shuts down Jayawardenepura University

Colombo, September 14 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Jayewardenepura University which was temporarily closed following a clash reportedly between two groups of students of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP), is to be re-opened after the Presidential Election.

It is reported that this clash had arisen due to a dispute between a group of students belonging to the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna studying in the Management Faculty and a group of students belonging to the Frontline Socialist Party studying in the Arts Faculty.

The university administration officially informed all students to vacate the university premises by 6 pm on Thursday.

A spokesman for the university said the administration decided to close the university to avert aggravating the situation and that the holiday that was supposed to be given to the students next week for the elections was accordingly given from Thursday (12).

The official said no police complaints or casualties were reported.

Dear JVP and FSP members, please come forward in a news conference and tell the people, was it a argument, a clash or a disagreement and what was the reason behind. To create uncertainty, we feel the government would had ordered the university admin to close the campus. Because loosing politicians wants to create some issue in the country before the election. I watched on news, some learned professors also adding fuel to fire.

This is clear ploy of the JVP. They staged the conflict to close down the university so that they could deploy the students for the NPP's political and shady activities next week. Once the NPP loses on 22, well you know how these students will be used.

Jvp has always had every student union and clash at universities. They are the reason why people go abroad to study. They are the reason private medical colleges cannot start in the country. There student union leaders have been in the campus for more than 10 years and not graduating. They themselves are lost. They are idealist. And speak the truth. But cannot lift a finger when it comes to work unless it’s to point at some else issue. They are great for opposition to keep the nation in check. But there very same unions will prevent any real change to the nation. They have held ministry and trade unions hijacked for over 30 years. They too have contributed to the downfall of this country. Sri Lankans have no choice but to elect someone from a list of murderers or parties directly involved in murder and nation choking.
