Colombo, September 9 (Daily Mirror)- Claiming that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa did not have money even to print his final poster in 2005 election, NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today that the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) had printed his final poster on credit and questioned how they have amassed massive wealth now.
Speaking at a rally in Thambuththegama, he said Basil Rajapaksa has not settled that money up to now.
Dissanayake questioned as to how they have amassed massive wealth now to purchase houses around the world, purchase lands all over the country and build mansions in Colombo.
He said politicians amass wealth by suppressing the people and added that the NPP will put a stop to this political culture.
Dissanayake said JVPers or NPP people have not misused a single cent of public money or earned any money or wealth through politics.
"We are ready to give up all our privileges after coming to power. Public money should not be spent to maintain politicians. We will not provide vehicle permits, houses, pay electricity or water bills of politicians at the cost of public money. Security will be provided only if there are any threats to politicians based on intelligence reports," he said.

Cat jumped out of the bag! Doesn't this show the involvement of JVP to get corrupt leaders elected and destroy our economy? How can AKD now say that they have nothing to do with the economic destruction caused during the past 70 years? People who believe their lies and vote for them will again cause us to suffer as we did 2 years ago!

They did a business. Printed for money. That is why he says that Basil has not settled yet. You have not understood.

He and npp does not want to win actually as they cannot do what they have promised so far. They just want to become the opposition so that they can just talk and criticise as usual. This is why Hadun, Lal and now Herath is also doing so hard by making npp bit unpopular so that they do not accidentally win. Lol

Fully agree with AKD . Please who write comments please think before you write. No one thought that MR was such a so corrupt swindler at the time, including CBK who was supporting him. Now Namal the son of a gun is vying to get the votes of the foolish public.

What an ignorant observation. Put the cat back in the bag. At that time MR promised to rid of another corrupt bunch and end the war.

Whenever the election are held simultaneously to the such elections numerous campaigns are befalling. The display of banners and hoardings can be seen frequently. Thus printing of a banner for an affiliated party is not a storm in a tea cup. Even now SJB comprises of various factions. Even independent candidate RW is also supported by various factions. In year 2005 while MR was contesting for the presidency he was also supported by various factions. Because at that time UNP was too strong as a single party. Even then JVP also a party comprised of substantial members As we believe that JVP might had been spending money on printing the banners posters from their party fund. Therefore nobody should be deeply concerned about that. However the sudden boom of MR and his cronies should be overly concerned

Forget about their help to MR but their destructive as well as disruptive activities caused economic damages over USD 200 billions as per calculation by a Colombo university professor. That alone is 10 times more than what other politicians have misused.

AKD helped MR to print the posters as out of two corrupt leaders he preferred MR to the other corrupt leader RW. AKD would have relied on MR to RW to end the war. So he gave a loan for an honourable settlement. AKD now exposes them for dishonesty. What is wrong?

That was the 1st time MR contested and obviously the JVP and many others expected a change. One thing to be said about the JVP/NPP is that they have indeed changed as evidenced by the many scams brought out by them in Parliament as also their disciplined ways of doing politics at present. Sadly all other parties have never shown signs of ever changing their ways.

Hey AKD, Just 2 questions. If MR did not have money how come you had money to print the poster? You say you will cut privileges when you cone to power. Why wait, do it now- right now. My theory is that you are 100% certain that yiu are not coming to power.

We have to asked you a similar question, you borrowed money from UNP through Malik Samarawickrama (Former UNP Chairman) claiming you have difficulties in settling your bills around 2015/2016. How did you manage to amaze a vast fortune to spend in this Presidential election and most importantly, what was your relationship with the UNP. How many times you were financed by the UNP.

So you had more resources than MR/Basil in 2005 to print posters on credit like printing paper, labour, a printing press. May be from the extractions by force or robbed from banks in 1988/89.

Of the 76 years post independence, how many years did governments elected with their active support and assistance govern the country? Also how many years were consumed by then creating unrest in the country and preventing elected government govern the way they though best for the people and country. A boss of mine used to say be seen to be putting out fires, but don't be caught lighting them. History suggests them lighting fires to destabilize and destroy the process the country would otherwise have made. The stated positions in their current manifesto suggests that they have now realised their folly over the years. How can they be worth of being considered of being placed in a trusted leadership position?

No one, in that case, we would still be in war or the LTTE might have taken over 80% of the land and sea. People forget things very soon. MR saved billions of Rupees by ending tge war and saved hundreds of thousands of lives. Say he and his associates robbed USD 20 billion But JVP activities cost the economy over USD 200 billions. In comparison, MR saved USD 100 billion by ending the war and probably took 20% commission but JVP created economic damage of USD 200 billions but saved nothing. So who is the lesser devil here.

First recover your losses and manage your small finances. Don't talk big about managing the country's economy and recovering stolen money while being a poor example of personal finance.

AKD, you had spent your party supporters money contribution for an act against illegal election law prevailed. That money also belongs to Public . How did a Thabuthegama son of a farmer had accumulated so much of wealth to have monthly income nearly 3 lakhs, a house in wife name and property in Ireland and Mediterainian country. Now travelling in Business class and attending meetings in super luxury vehicles. You now admit JVP were behind and on behalf of Jarapaksha all the way from 2005. Shame bloody ෂෝක් ne.

I guess JVP used the money that they looted and robbed from the banks and people of this country to print those posters. And also they use it to purchase V8s and indulge in other luxuries. Where else do they get all the money to conduct such a huge campaign featuring unlimited ads, posters, leaflets, books, etc ......

A key issue is Trust. Could a group that has been hellbent on destroying the country and its people, merely to achieve its political and power ambitions in the past be trusted, simply because they now claim to and have done a 180 degree turn around on their previously stated and hard and violently fought for policy and political positions? It is very interesting that many of these policy positions are opposed to their very clearly articulated and voted on position in parliament even upto a few months ago. What a conversion of political convenience! Can such opportunistic chameleons be tested? The answer in my view is No. Look behind some of the softer faces they strategically seek to present, and you see the old rear guard still in absolute control of the movement. It is these violence marked hands that currently and the immediate future that actually run and will run the party. Leopards do not change their spots.

Big Talker now you are contradicting by saying that the privileges will be foregone once you come to power which is a pipe dream. You are the most corrupt politician from the recent acceptance of a V8 vehicle plus exptatriate funds for the JVP (NPP wolves in sheep clothing) Although you say that you will give up all privileges the JVP have already established a proxy voter bases who will supply your needs more and above and not for nothing it will be like you "Scratch my back and we will Scratch your backs" This will be the beginning of the start of unprecedented corruption not thought of as no one can pin point the funds flowing in an invisible way. How come that the JVP is spending billions for media coverage when looking at the other candidates are only a pittance. Prayers will be answered by God above us who will give the JVP Judgement and expose your hypocrisy!!!!!

when it comes to flamboyant lifestyles i think MR seems to be a better guy compared to these folks, he was an open book and everyone knew he and he's family robbed day and night.. But this statement in it's self clearly shows that these guys are not sincere at all.. in politics in this part of the world no body is a saint, So if these guys have helped MR in 2005 then surely someway or the other they too would have benefitted from him.. NPP project themselves as highly educated white collar folks.. so based on this statement people should understand that white collar rogues are the worse when compared to blue collar rogues.. At the rate NPP folks are talking they'll prolly be worse than MR and the clan..
