Jalani Premadasa receives salute from Air force?
- SLAF however maintains the Present Arms was for G.L. Peiris and not Jalani Premadasa
- G.L. was however seen walking behind Jalani when the salute was given
Colombo, September 11 (Daily Mirror) - Severe controversy has erupted over a video circulating on social media showing Jalani Premadasa, the wife of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa supposedly receiving a present arms salute by SLAF personnel while she was entering the Air Force Camp in Palali yesterday (10)
The present arms is a salute position where the rifle is brought up vertically in line with the body and is usually given to the Heads of State and Members of Parliament
When contacted SLAF spokesman, Group Captain Eranda Geeganage said the present arms salute was performed for MP G. L. Peiris who was among the group accompanying Jalani Premadasa and not for any other individual.
However, it is evident that Jalani Premadasa was leading the group and G. L was seen walking behind her when the salute was given after which Jalani went on to be greeted as the main guest at the Palali camp and a shawl was wrapped on to welcome her.

This is not good sign if SP becomes the president. I saw the video clip and I was very surprised, the salute was for her, not for GLP. The fault here is not with Jalani, but with the Air Force officer who did not comply with the protocols. Disciplinary actions shall be taken against him. GLP is a very weak personality and he was seen walking well behind Jalani. Voters to SJB, be mindful of her role if SJB won this election.

She is not the First Lady of the country.Sometimes she may hallucinate to become the First Lady it will be a mere dream Furthermore this incident may bring the disgrace to the entire three forces Therefore the airforce officers so saluted should be subjected to the disciplinary action

So how do you single out the MP and salute him unless you let Jalani go and then rush in front of GL and salute. Poor AirForce, if you salute an MP you are in trouble if you do not still in trouble. What a storm in a teacup. As if there are no other much bigger issues before us.

Why is everyone blaming Sajith? It should be the Air Force who should be asked the questions. They obviously respect Sajith enough to provide a salute even though he is not the President - yet. People are so narrow minded and easily triggered in this country.

Wow I thought the Aryawa will be the first to do this kinda thing but looks like she's facing healthy competition from the sister in law. Being the original larger than life children of the executive, it must've been so hard for them in the past couple of decades looking at the Rajapakse kids and not having the same. SJB Supportor here, while sometimes Jalanis involvement is painful for us, this case is different. She was merely walking when officer gave the salute she wasnt even looking at him and probably didnt even notice !
