Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala summits the Swiss Matterhorn

Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala, who summitted Mount Everest in 2016, has climbed the summit of Matterhorn (4,4478m) located in the Valais Alps in Switzerland recently.

She posted a Facebook post saying that it took eight days of high-altitude preparation to climb to the summit of Mount Matterhorn (4,4478m).

"It was uphill all the way, a steep climb over rock, with ice and snow in sections, needing crampons and ice axes to make our way up. We were very lucky with clear blue skies and perfect weather. Just a few days ago no summit

attempts were possible due to heavy snowfall last week," she said in the post.

She said she received the Summit Certificate as proof of the achievement.

"It is a common practice when someone 'summits' a peak (as opposed to 'climbing' a peak and not making it to the summit), you earn your 'summit certificate' as proof of the achievement," she said.
