Social media activist 'Jean Aunty' and her husband were attacked by two men last morning and are currently receiving treatment at the Ragama Teaching Hospital, confirmed hospital sources.
According to Jean Aunty, the attack occurred around 7 a.m. at her home in Enderamulla.
She stated that two men, suspected to be involved in drug-related activities, arrived at her house and assaulted her and her husband.
The attackers, armed with sticks, targeted her husband’s leg before turning on her. Both victims were admitted to the Ragama Teaching Hospital with injuries sustained during the attack.
Jean Aunty explained that the assault was likely in retaliation for her recent social media posts exposing individuals involved in drug trafficking in her area, as well as alleged connections with the Enderamulla Police.
She has since provided a detailed statement to the hospital police and urged the government to take swift action to arrest those responsible for the attack and the ongoing drug-related activities in her area.
Both Jean Aunty and her husband still remain in the hospital, receiving treatment for their injuries.
