Wariyapola, Jan 09 (Daily Mirror) - In a thrilling pursuit, a police sniffer dog named 'Johnny' followed a scent trail for nearly four kilometres through Wariyapola to track down a suspect who had stolen batteries from vehicles parked as case evidence materials at the Wariyapola District Court.
The Wariyapola Police arrested the suspect and recovered five stolen batteries.
Police said several vehicles, including a luxury bus, had been parked as case evidence at the Wariyapola Magistrate's Court when the batteries were stolen.
With no immediate leads, the police called in Johnny, a trained sniffer dog attached to the Police Kennel Unit in Kurunegala.
Police Constable Ranasinghe (90426) who was handling Johnny, provided the dog with a terminal connected to a battery to begin the search.
Then Johnny followed the scent for four kilometres, eventually leading the police officers to a house in Vilakatupotha, Wariyapola, where the suspect was arrested.
