The Ceylon Teachers Union Secretary Joseph Stalin today lodged a complaint at the National Child Protection Authority against the police brutality on children at the Galle Face Protest on October 9.
Video footage showed a 15 year old child being arrested by the police at the protest yesterday while another video showed a mother being dragged away from her child.
Social media has since then heavily condemned the police brutality unleashed on the protestors and children while some sections questioned the motive of the protestors for brining little children to the protest site. (DSB)

'''questioned the motive of the protestors for bringing little children to the protest site'''''. Still (supposedly) it is a free country and no law where children can be taken. But there is a law against cruelty to children.

A child's place should be the school or the safe environment of their parents, not a protest site

This Stalin fellow is asking for trouble.
If he is a teachers union leader, just stick to the activities of the teachers. Why put children at risk by exposing them to the adult world of strikes and protests

Police brutality was seen through out, even children were not spared. It is Obvious they are carrying out somebody's orders, knowing or Unknowingly one day when they have to face Law and Order all alone, even loose their position and their Future endeavours.

Yesterday's protest at Galle Face was totally unnecessary! It clearly shows there are dirty hearted politicians who are trying to take advantage of innocent people ! Appreciate Gov strong stance this country has to move forward and not get bogged down by these protests.

Bringing children to any public place isn't illegal. However, the behaviour of the enforcers of peace in a a public place is subject the judicial process.

When your surname is Stalin you must be insane to name your son Joseph. What about historylessons in Sri Lanka?

A child should be in school, not at a protest site. The parents are responsible for this.

This man puts himself 1000 times more way of harm for his action to stop this brutality. He is showing courage, as he knows what it is like to be targeted and arrested, and knows he is likely to face suffering when fighting for others.
BASL is all talk, but they afraid. Stalin carries himself with purpose, not like BASL lawyers, all wishy washy in movement, and looking snake like.
BASL fight police brutality, this man fights for protecting other... very different approaches, but this man's way will resound better with the public, than BASL complain police are law unto themselves.

Any parent with an atom of a brain would not bring a child to a protest site. What did they expect by doing so? Unbelievable how irresponsible some parents can be.

Are they parents? This shows that they would resort to any dirty thing to grab power.

Schools in the North have been heavily militarised with army personnel participation. This is effectively ill treatment. Now when police treat on of our children harshly we get upset

The natural instinct of parent and near relatives, is to keep the children away from trouble spots. If these people bring their little ones to trouble spots, then they have a sinister plan. i.e. To expose the children and women to physical harm, so that they can throw the blame on the authorities, and the rulers. It is these parents who should be taken to custody and charged with cruelty to children. We see world news, and notice it is the elders who dare to face bullets, while little ones are safely tucked away in comfort and safety. Are we so dumb to understand the basic instinct, even the animals have to protect their little ones? Our culture has definitely changed!! We are becoming a warrior (Shaidriya) society!
