Kalpitiya Police OIC granted bail over sexual assault case

Puttalam, Feb 13 (Daily Mirror) - The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Kalpitiya Police Station surrendered to the Puttalam Magistrate's Court today in connection with allegations of sexually assaulting a female police constable.

Police said the Kuliyapitiya Division Senior Superintendent of Police launched an investigation after the alleged incident and subsequently reported the matter to the court.

The OIC, an inspector, represented by a lawyer, appeared before the Magistrate this afternoon.

The Magistrate granted the inspector bail on a bond of Rs. 500,000, and ordered him to report to the Kuliyapitiya SSP's office on the last Sunday of every month until the case's next hearing on March 6.

Police said that apart from legal proceedings, the inspector will also face disciplinary action within the department.

At least this Sri Lankan Police Inspector was arrested and produced before the Magistrate . But in Britain sexual assault by policemen against female colleagues is an epidemic , yet only very few investigations are carried out and certainly only a handful of arrests . Specially if you are an Asian female and join the British Police force, the White Policemen , who are your colleagues , are circling to pounce on you at every opportunity . It is a shame complaints against white colleagues are often not entertained by the senior Police officers. In fact Asian female Police officers were even threatened by Senior White Police Officers to discourage in making complaints .My personal advice to Asian females in Britain is “ don’t join the British Police”.

Do you work for the British police to know all this. Sexual predators are there in every country, in every society and in every workplace. Sexual predators do not discriminate on colour a or ethnicity. One should not generalise on these.

Oh how cool, instant bail for sexual assault and that too after a commision finds validity in the investigation and reports it to court. Now policemen should not worry about sexually assaulting there female colleagues as it is considered a cool incident by law.
