Colombo, November 06 - Karu Jayasuriya, former Speaker of the Parliament and President of the National Movement for Social Justice congratulated US President-elect Donald Trump on his return to the prominent role in global leadership.
In a congratulatory message, Jayasuriya acknowledged the pressing issues facing the world today, including the erosion of human dignity, increasing power struggles and the toll of relentless greed.
He expressed concern over rising ethnic and racial divides that have senselessly cost lives and urged for unity and justice. Highlighting the recent tragedies in Gaza and Beirut, Jayasuriya called for an unwavering global stance against injustices.
"Our race, religion and heritage are accidents of birth — not choices that determine our worth," Jayasuriya noted in his message, emphasising the need to recognise humanity’s shared values.
Jayasuriya also expressed concern over the weakening of international institutions, pointing to recent challenges faced by the United Nations and instances where international law has been disregarded. He urged Trump, as a global leader, to promote justice, fairness and human rights, adding that the future rests in actions that could prevent the existential threat of a third world war.
Closing his message, Jayasuriya wished Trump strength and wisdom in navigating this crucial period, emphasising that his leadership could define the course of history.
