Colombo, Feb 04 (Daily Mirror) - Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, who was remanded over importation of substandard Immunoglobulin injections, was admitted to Prison Hospital.
Prisons Spokesman Gamini Dissanayake said that Rambukwella was admitted due to illness, following doctor's recommendation.
Rambukwella, remanded until February 15, was produced before Maligakanda Magistrate's Court.

I feel so sad for this honourable man. He did such great service to the nation but was led astray by the drug mafia. Get well soon sir.

Are you for real?? This heartless fellow who said that its natural for people to die in hospitals and also said that is the reason there are funeral parlous near hospitals. Even if what you are saying is true he is not a baby to be led astray...it's people like you are continue to support and go behind these clowns that are holding our country back

If you claim this man was honorable and did service to our people, well GOODBYE to his honorability and good service. Citizens have now shown the other side of this so-called honorable man, greed and get rich quick has put him where he is today, people have died and suffering as a result of the decisions he made as the saying goes " you make your own bed keep sleeping on it". In Sri Lamka crooks and people who operate with no honesty and integrity always end up trying to pass the buck onto someone else, sad but TRUE.

Bring disrepute to Health Service Sunday, 04 February 2024 07:53 AM
Will the doctors administer the very "substandard Immunoglobulin injections" to him. They have plenty of reasons to do that. One reason is for bringing disrepute to the Health Service in spite of dedicated health workers.

All the hidden illnesses surface from politicians' hitherto unhearef of and the best check-up for them is when they are convicted they are always admitted to hospitals citing various illnesses.

KR Supporter Sunday, 04 February 2024 08:18 AM
Whatever the illness Keheliya has, he would be fit enough to walk to the Courts by Feb 15th. If the Courts decide to adjourn the proceeding by 6 months, he will be sick for another 6 months but will be OK to walk to the Courts for that hearing as well. Keheliya has done so much for this country by saving money by purchasing drugs from black-listed drug companies albeit for higher Commissions and sometimes manufacturing drugs in the backyard drug factories in Sri Lanka thereby reducing the population of this highly populated country. Bravo Keheliya

The Medical Certificate recommending hospitalising of remand prisoners can be reviewed by a Medical Panel. If the Medical Certification is questionable, the doctor responsible would be dealt with by the Sri Lanka Medical Council. It only needs to be raised in a formal way, and this affront to our legal system will cease overnight. If anyone feels that politicians and others are creeping through loopholes, please complain to the Sri Lanka Medical Council, and I am sure they would ensure the reliability of Medical Certificates by enforcing standards and warning all doctors on their list. That would surely stop this nonsense.

MAGESTRATE ORDER A SPECIALIST SECOND OPINION Sunday, 04 February 2024 02:35 PM
CORRECT. COURT/MAGESTRATE SHOULD ORDER A INDEPENDANT MEDICAL SPECIALIST RELATED TO WHATEVER MEDICAL ISSUE HE CLAIMS TO HAVE, WHEN PEOPLE ARE ILL OR CLAIM TO BE ILL THEY ARE USUALLY SEEN BY ANOTHER DOCTOR FOR A 2ND OPINION. IN THIS CASE WE MAY NEED A THIRD OPINION. THE PREDICTION OF MANY COMMENTS EARLIER WAS THAT HE WOULD BE ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL, LIKE A FEW OTHERS HAVE DONE IN THE PAST. DISHONEST AND MONEY HUNGRY PEOPLE ALWAYS END UP FAKING ILLNESSES TO GET OUT OF A SITUATION, A SECOND OPINION WOULD CLARIFY DETAILS OF WHAT EXACTLY HIS MEDICAL CONDITION IS TO CLEAR THE AIR.

If a prisoner comes to a doctor with red flag symptoms, the doctor has no choice but to admit and investigate. The patient may be fit enough to go about usual daily activities, but not fit enough to be in prison.

An Impatient Patient Sunday, 04 February 2024 11:35 AM
This person has purchased medicines from black-listed companies in India because he would get higher Commissions from black-listed drug companies. Instead of importing Immunoglobulin injections, he got them manufactured by a 'so-called drug company' in Sri Lanka. This action has saved foreign exchange from Sri Lanka. Although many patients may have died after taking substandard medicines, Sri Lanka is highly overpopulated and he thought it is OK when patients die.

The prison hospital is maintained by the poor tax payers money, this crap did a crime to the people and now spending that tax payers money. Why are the people just reading this article and doing nothing. Why not round up the prison hospital and the doctor who issued fake sick certificate to withdraw. As long as the people just wait without doing anything, then how the system the system will change. Did u not see the people of France how they acted against the government when they don't listen to the public issues. When are you going to wake up and stop this nonsense.

If our health system needs to be fixed, make it mandatory for all government servants and ministers to seek medical attention only in government hospitals. Then the robberies taking place in private hospitals will also cease. Prison hospitals should be equipped to treat prisoners. The man should retire if his health is failing.

This was expected by the sympathetic voters.- Either a five star hotel with bar facilities or VVIP section of the prison hospital, away from the other prisoners, because the Hon. minister needs comfort while under arrest and release practice of the Judiciary of Sri Lanka. Case of course will get thrown out of the court windows at the next hearing and some poor CID guy will lose his job for insulting the Hon. minister of wrong doing and the President will offer a public apology, blaming the Indian Pharmaceutical Co. calling it a political stunt
