LDB Chairman arrested while accepting bribe

Livestock Development Board (LDB) Chairman K. Muthuvinayagam and an accounts assistant of a private company belonging to him were arrested by Bribery Commission officials while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 600,000 from a businessman promising to rent out a cafeteria at a farm in Melsiripura.

It is reported that the Chairman had solicited a Rs.1.2 million bribe from the businessman to rent out the cafeteria for two years. (DS)

As long as laws are weak, people don’t fear to accept bribe. This is a good example. Remember, President’s chief of staff accepting a bribe and being arrested? RK having his rent paid as a bribe? In normal course, that creates fear in others to take bribes. But when the law or the Govt. doesn’t act to punish, this will continue. Just like the sunrise.

RK's rent paid as a bribe? It goes far beyond that. The entire "penthouse" was given to him as a "gift", but unfortunately he does not remember it. What ingratitude?

It is strange the surface of the bribe accepted by LDB Chairman, whereas huge amounts have been taken by several prominent politicians and high ranked officers in various government departments have not come to light. Hope the Bribery Officials should do their job without fear or favour for the sake of our lovely country Sri Lanka to redeem from the current economic crisis.
