Parliament (Daily Mirror) - Lands worth Rs 10.5 billion will be released to investors next year, Minister of Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga told Parliament today.
Speaking during the committee stage debate on the budget, the Minister said lands worth Rs 7.5 billion have been released to the investors this year. “We have decided to release land on long-term payment plans,” he said.
“We have already released Visumpaya Colombo and President’s house Jaffna to investors. Visumpaya is to be converted into a luxury hotel while the President‘s house in Jaffna will be converted into an IT campus,” he revealed.
Also, Minister Ranatunga revealed that Sri Lankan government has earned US $ 600,000 by selling houses in dollars. “These houses have been purchased by Sri Lankan expatriates abroad. We will continue selling houses in dollars,” the Minister said.
