Colombo, Sep 21 (Daily Mirror) - A 35-year-old woman, a leading lawyer, was hacked to death with a machete at her residence at Pengiriwatta by the driver of the house, police said.
They said the suspect, a resident of Matara, had slit the victim's neck and fled the scene.
The deceased was identified as Jayani Sewmini de Silva.
Mirihana Police launched an investigation to arrest the suspect and it was reported that the Benthara Police arrested the suspect after he had attempted to commit suicide by jumping into the Bentara River.
The 45-year-old suspect is to be handed over to the Mirihana Police.
Investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the tragedy.
