Legal action to be taken against unauthorized granting of national awards

Colombo, Feb. 23 (Daily Mirror)- President's Secretary Saman Ekanayake has directed officials to take legal action against the unauthorized granting of national awards and honorary titles.

He said cases where individuals and organizations wrongly present awards similar to those bestowed by the President to deserving Sri Lankans, have been observed.

Ekanayake underscored the urgency of halting this misuse to prevent grave injustice and disrespect to genuinely honoured individuals.

President himself give appointments in various fields. The legal field President's Counsel who are appointed some haven't achieved the pinnacle in practice of Law to be appointed and some are appointed on other considerations

Agreed, many charlatans pay big bucks to these dodgy institutes to get these awards, including Doctorates and Masters degrees for $$$ has to be stopped...Great injustice to the genuine ones!

Super move. We have a water bottle vendor in the neighbourhood with a free Doctorate, the business card says Hons. Driving a duty-free V8. You must also scrap the title ' professor' in universities for people who have not done a PhD. It becomes a joke to see many getting this title based on political influences and/or after sucking up to the higher admins. When the perks also get better, they also don't work as they think they are above all, despite they don't know, they are useless and getting paid off poor taxpayers's money.

Even the President himself has been awarded the Presidency sans any mandate or qualifications, so why should we talk about the Academy awards rewarded to students prepared by private institutions with their own will?
