Long tender process leads to malpractices in medicine procurements: COPF

COLOMBO (Daily Mirror)- Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) Harsha de Silva informed Parliament today that his committee has advised the Ministry of Finance to introduce a new efficient system to procure medicines and medical equipment.

"We have found that it takes 8 months to purchase medicine and medical equipment. It is obvious that those concerned develop the habit of going for emergency procurements," he said.

Have the tender system where the person placing a tender must show his financial capacity, His successes in past tenders and delivery, details of the drugs/equipment he expects to deliver together with details and credentials of the suppliers. Also to provide samples of the drugs for testing
