Luxury vehicle runs over policeman

An SUV vehicle ran over a police traffic officer who was on duty at the Independence Avenue roundabout this evening, police said.

The high-speeding vehicle had veered off and crashed on the pond at the roundabout, running over the policeman.

The 25-year-old police officer (PC-1988) was rushed to the Colombo General Hospital with serious injuries and has been admitted to the ICU for further treatment, according to hospital sources.

The driver of the vehicle was under police custody.

Every driver should know that due to rain the roads are wet n taking a turn in a roundabout, he should exercise extreme care to slow down. The driver's family should visit the injured police constable constantly n made to settle the medical bills n also pay compensation if the injury is serious.

Why do Sri Lankans call these ordinary crossovers and trucks ‘luxury SUV’? This is nowhere even near a luxury SUV. Yes luxury SUV’s are there in Sri Lanka but just a handful! We really need to get off this 3rd class mind frame!

I have always thought the traffic police officers standing in the middle of the road are taking a risk. They should use some remotely operated signalling system instead.

Firstly hope the Police officer is okay, secondly these are not luxury vehicles, just because they are overpriced in the miracle of Asia, these are just ordinary vehicles overseas. In Sri Lanka these should cost between Rs3.5 - 4 million however are sold for Rs8 million which is absurd. Now if you take what our parliamentary ones get, those are luxury vehicles.

In Sri Lanka, these vehicles are called luxury vehicles. The issue here is about the driving habits. These people drive like mad guys. They are infact mad. Police generally do not catch these irrant drivers.

This is good news. When accidents happen and ordinary citizens die, no action is taken by Police Authorities. Now when one of the Police is run over, maybe action will be taken.
