MP Archchuna’s fate to be decided after committee probe: Speaker

Colombo, Jan 07 (Daily Mirror) - A committee is currently probing MP Ramanathan Archchuna, and his fate will be decided based on its findings, Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne told Parliament today.

The Speaker provided this information after MP Archchuna inquired about a complaint he had made against Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, whom he accused of depriving him of his right to speak in the House.

Chief Opposition Whip Gayantha Karunathillake said the Opposition is awaiting the Speaker's advice on MP Archchuna.

The MP in question is accused of misconduct in the recent past.

He was officially discharged from government medical service as per a ruling from the former health minister after which he contested the general elections. So technically he is not practising.

Whatever said and done, he has taken all government servants and MP's of north to task. He might be an egostic individual with self promotion, but he is also intelligent and able to grasp things quickly, proving to be astute with administrative tasks. He is an asset to the nation as an MP.

He is an Asset to the Nation who have been trampled by corrupt officials acting in coordination and are feared being exposed. We hear a lot of barking from these officers and on the other side the sleeping representatives want to outdo him. An example is the lime stone excavation seen which the officials have try to explain fooling all. There may be many a dedicated Doctors but have to tow the line of the Mafia. All of them are trying to put the blame on the Minister but have eaten from his plate. We need Arjuna who can fearlessly expose corruption.

Opposition party have to allocate time for him to talk the people' problems. Otherwise speaker have to allocate time for him, He has full right to talk about people' problems. Hon. Archuna should read the book contents Privileges, Proceedings and Usage of Parliament by Erskine May. He should have ask padrone from Opposition leader openly in Parliament. He should understand that he is representing for the people of Jaffna district. His action in parliament is totally unaccepted.
