MP Sanath Nishantha’s vehicle crashes into cyclist

One man was hospitalized after a vehicle belonging to state minister Sanath Nishantha crashed into him while he was riding his bicycle in the Puttalam area today, police said.

MP Sanath Nishantha was present in the vehicle when the driver crashed into the cyclist severely injuring him.

Police said the cyclist was admitted to the Kurunegala Hospital.

Police said the driver of the MP will be arrested and investigations are ongoing. (DSB)

Only in Sri Lanka the driver is immediately arrested after an accident involving injuries. In other countries the driver may face court charges but never arrested after the accidents unless found to be intoxicated or not possessing valid driving documents.The end court verdict could be Acquittal, Fine, Suspended Sentence , or Prison Sentence.

Not a driver of an MP involved in the accident, it is exactly the MP involved, so arrest him immediately without skipping his arrest for the wrong doings that MP made. This old TRICK is well awared by the General Public.

It appears that the vehicle did not stop and provide assistance to the injured. If the driver drove off without stopping the Minister too must be charged for aiding and abetting the driver not to stop

If it is a vehicle belonging to HON STATE MINISTER, the police should immediately arrest the cyclist, produce him in court and get him remanded. And , of course, the driver of the HON MINISTER’s vehicle and the HON MINISTER should be named victims of the incident. Guys…. This is the LAND OF THE BYEEYAS……

Nothing to worry for sanath nishantha's driver . Cyclist will be jailed , eventhough he is critical . Why did that cyclist went on that road when sanath නිශාන්ත was going is, another concern .

The default rule by Police is any if anyone is injured and hospitalized due to a accident the driver is arrested and then have to apply for Police Bail.
