While Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Chaminda Wijesiri alleged that liquor licenses have been given to those MPs whose houses had been burnt during the mob attacks last year to silence them, State Minister Shantha Bandara denounced the allegation.
MP Wijesiri said, “These MPs have been up in arms after their houses had been burnt and nothing had been done for them. Therefore they have been given liquor to make them silent,” the MP told Parliament.
However, State Minister Bandara rejected the claim. “I am the president of the association formed by the MPs who had come under arson attacks and I clearly say that no MP who had suffered arson attacks has been given licenses,” he said.
Meanwhile, MP Wijesiri complained that even the leaders in the opposition have begun a move to stop him from speaking in the House.
“The Speaker stops us from speaking in the House from one side while our own people in the opposition are also stopping me. Therefore, I have no option but to stay at home under these circumstances,” he said. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
