Colombo, July 30 (Daily Mirror)- Claiming that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has taken a decision going against the majority opinion of the party, State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said today they hope that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa will rectify the wrong decision taken for the need of a handful of people.

He told a news conference held in Colombo that the decision to field a separate candidate by the SLPP was taken on a personal agenda.

"The SLPP was formed based on Mahinda Rajapaksa. We all contributed to the formation of the party. The SLPP is not a party formed by the MPs who took the decision not to support the President. I believe that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa will rectify the wrong decision," he said.

Costly decision. May be Ranil is not agreeing to all demands of SLPP. May be they want Namal as PM. Although Rajapakshas did a lot of hood deeds in the country, their robbing of state money caused their demise from fame. Rajapakshas could have remained as King's had they adopted a governance with integrity and respect for all.

For 76 years the main parties that ruled this country never really uplifted or reduced the percentage of "Not so educated or well informed" voter base. As a result we have a foolish nation (atleast 35 to 40%) who are also self centred. Ranil never was appealing to this lot of voters who are emotional in their thinking. They love to side with who ever who gives them "something" a takaran sheet, a pad for the girls, some smart boards any thing is reciprocated by a vote as a mark of gratitude. People deserve the govt and president they get.

Those MPs elected from SLPP votes will only have a few votes and not the total number they received last time. At lease 50% of Pohottuwa voters are now neutral. They can go in any direction. Pohottuwa will have stock vote of about 15% of the votes received last time and these are the Rajapaksa fans. Ranil is aiming this vote. Ranil so far has declined to give 65% of the nominations to SLPP members. Finally he may agree to 65% get the votes. His promise would be another broken promise

You are spot on as the Rajapakses have been idiots of the first grade although they boast of one guy having seven brains maybe in the wrong place. Always they have made wrong decisions even burying the dead of the other religions during covid, changing the fertilizer policy etc. Better late than never for the ruling legislators to move out because it will be a disaster for the SLPP!!!!!!!!

No matter how many SLPP MP’s join Ranil he is going to loose. All these so called MP’s have lost their vote bank, they are forgetting that the people have already rejected them. Right now they are trying to hang onto Ranil since they have no other alternative. Their political future is doomed. I don’t know why the press is wasting so much time on Ranil and SLPP when they are not the front runners of this election.

It was the right decision taken by the Executive Committee of the SLPP not to support Ranil Wickremasinghe because the public will support RW more now that the corrupt leadership of SLPP is no longer supporting RW. Rajapaksas; Please do not change your mind.
