Colombo, Jan. 26 (Daily Mirror)- Police Constable J.A.A. Jayakodi who was the security officer of late State Minister Sanath Nishantha, who died in an accident on the Katunayake Expressway, was posthumously promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant by the IGP with effect from January 25.

The constable attached to the Ministerial Security Division (MSD) and State Minister Sanath Nishantha died in the accident early morning on Wednesday.

With the cost of living so high at the moment, a police sergeants’ pension isn’t going to be of much help. A one million rupee compensation package won’t last more than a year. The compensation package for this man’s family is inadequate to say the least.
