Colombo, Jan 02 (Daily Mirror) - The brother-in-law of MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage had allegedly played havoc at a police station in the Gampola police division after the police officer had subjected his (brother-in-law) two sons to a security check, sources from the police said.
The suspect had gone to the police station with a group of people who have been drunk and had threatened the OIC.
Later the OIC of the police station had requested the police constable, who carried out the investigation, to tender an apology to the two children. The constable had then threatened to shoot everyone and shoot himself if the party came to the police station demanding an apology.
Also, it was reported that DIG Central Province Lalith Pathinayake in a letter to the acting IGP to transfer the police OIC of the particular police station who had not alerted the senior police officers about the incident.
Meanwhile, MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage who clarified on the incident in Gampola said it was his sister’s daughter’s children who were under 12 years of age have been subjected to a security check by the police and their father had only made an inquiry.
“A police office had come to the house where my sister's daughter resides and had subjected her two small children to a security check. The children’s father who had come home after work had gone to the police station to inquire as to why small children were subjected to a security check. This is the only incident that had happened. I returned to Sri Lanka from abroad only today. Therefore I don’t know much about the incident,” he said.
