Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage joins SJB

Colombo, Feb. 23 (Daily Mirror)- Former Chief of Defence Staff Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage has been appointed as the head of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Anti Corruption Unit, the party office said today.

He obtained the party membership and the appointment letter from Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today.

Major General Liyanage has also been appointed as an advisor to Sajith Premadasa.

Why can't these worn-out old military men enjoy their retirement peacefully, but have to actively get involved in politics? Men who have learned to kill and torture and feel superior to other people because of the power that their work has brought with them have no place in politics or in parliament or the cabinet. Alarm bells should ring for every Democrat as more and more military officials turn to politics.

The SJB is a very strange repository for military pensioners!!! As already stated elsewhere, I admit that every military member is allowed to engage in political activities after leaving office, but what is striking and suspicious is their affinity with the SJB and the fact that almost all of them seek proximity to Premadasa! Is he perhaps, in your eyes, the political “lightweight” where you can most easily assert your own interests and career goals!? My advice to Fonseka is that he should seriously think about changing parties or founding a new party in time for the elections! The SJB and the newly added actors will prove to be a hindrance if revolutionary, political changes are to be realized in Sri Lanka!

SJB Chairman thinks he should be the one and only man from the military in the SJB. He slung mud at a previous SJB newcomer who was high rank military, and soon he will say the current fellow has track record of ill discipline as well.
