Man caught with counterfeit currency while attempting to buy gold



Ratnapura, August 17 (Daily Mirror) - A suspect was arrested yesterday in the Ratnapura town while attempting to purchase gold at a jewellery shop using 102 counterfeit Rs. 5,000 notes. 

Police identified the suspect as a 33-year-old resident of Soranathota, Badulla. 

He had entered the shop, expressing interest in buying a gold necklace and had placed a bundle of Rs. 5,000 notes on the table. 

The shop owner, who recognised the notes as fake, informed the police, leading to the suspect's arrest.

It was later revealed that the suspect had printed the counterfeit notes using a printer at home.

Ratnapura Police are continuing investigations.
