Management of Mattala Airport to be given to private investor

Mattala (Daily Mirror) - The management of Sri Lanka's second international airport in Mattala will be given to a private investor for 30 years, Minister of Aviation and Shipping Nimal Siripala de Silva said today.

"The agreement to lease out the airport will be finalized next week," the Minister told Parliament.

No harm in giving the airport to anyone suitable. However, we should get paid the full lease amount for at least 3 years and in addition a deposit of another 25% of the lease for another 2 years, at the time of signing the contract.

Well from the time the British left we have simply been running down the capital and infrastructure left behind by them. A few new infrastructure projects at significantly inflated costs plunging the country into an economic mess. Perhaps one large scale project post independence that was reasonable ok when completed was the accelerated mahaweli project ... there is something genuinely productive to show and boast about in it.

Considering the fact that its location is not ideal for air travel, but also harmful to the environment, will the third be allowed to repurpose it for an alternative use. For instance, an overseas entity could set up a storage facility, military base, research establishment (postgraduate institute), yoga institute or even a haven for displaced people from foreign climes, who will convert us to a new spiritualty.

Matthala is given to private sector as the government can't manage it. What should happen is for the government to be handed over to a team that can handle all subjects/all government agencies etc after holding an election to elect a new President

The airport is located in the wrong place.. This airport can be used to ferry Rajapakses family in and out of Sri Lanka. They live very close vicinity of the airport. I don't know which idiot agreed to build this airport.
