The Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Ministry said that they will implement a work plan to minimise the damage caused by wild animals to food crops within two months.

The Ministry said the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agricultural Research and Training Institute has pointed out that 30–40% of the crop is damaged in the country due to destruction by wild animals.

Therefore, the Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Minister, Mahinda Amaraweera, advised the officials to take steps to implement an appropriate work order within two months to prevent crop damage caused by wild animals. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Yes good idea. I have 3 acres vegetable plot, it's neglected now because of Pigs ruining the crop even though I have a fence the animals run it down.

The damage 225 in diyawannaa doing to the country is much much more higher than all the wild animals doing to agriculture sector. It is high time we find a way to chase out those.

The job of the Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation is not to protect human food resources. The Ministry should direct its efforts to conserve our wildlife and forests. There are many ministries to look after the people and their interests but for our depleting wildlife and forests this is the only ministry. Totally misguided effort. Crops, especially vegetables and fruits are are destroyed by monkeys in Mannar area. Will the Agriculture Department and wild Life department find a lasting solution for this?

If it was so easy to prevent crop damage within the next two months why didnt they do it all these years without the wanton destruction of flora and fauna which is taking a heavy toll on Sri Lanka's wild life?
