Medical Specialists highlight current blunders that compel to leave SL
Medical specialists who return from abroad after concluding overseas training, get disheartened due to a series of unaddressed issues, albeit they have the keen desire to serve Sri Lanka with dedication, the Association of Medical Specialists (AMS) said.
In a letter addressed to the Health Ministry Secretary, the AMS highlights a string of challenges they are facing including a lack of infrastructure, administrative proactivity and facilities.
They also brought the following administrative blunders of the senior medical administrators of the Ministry of Health, to the attention of the Health Secretary.
Undue delay of annual transfers of medical specialists 2023, harassment of young specialists by asking them to work in an impractical manner across distantly placed hospitals, openly proposing impractical punitive measures to prevent brain drain and not taking effective measures to carry out disciplinary orders of SLMC on Dr Ruhul Haq’s case.
The AMS stressed that these major administrative blunders have led to great difficulties for medical specialists to deliver optimum health care to the people of our country.
“Further, the arrogant and unprofessional behaviour of some of the medical administrators in the present setup, precipitates the overseas exodus of such motivated medical specialists,” the letter added.
