Dengue will reach a peak level in Colombo and Suburbs during the final three months of this year and early next year, a medical expert said.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ruwan Wijayamuni told the Daily Mirror that Dengue  could reach it peak later this month, December and  in January next year.

“It is not an issue in Colombo City at the moment, though there are cases reported in areas such as Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia, Kotte and Kolonawa at the moment. Most of the mosquito larvae which might have existed could have been washed away due to the heavy showers which the city had experienced during the past few days,” Dr. Wijayamuni said.

“There could be a peak later this month, in December and in January next year,”  he said.

According to the Health Ministry statistics, there have been 586 cases in October this year and around 49,000 cases for the whole year so far across the country. (Yohan Perera)
