A mill owner who had failed to release rice stocks to the market is included in the SJB's national list, Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe told Parliament today.
He said this person who owns the Ratna Rice Mill has obtained a loan of Rs 3.5 billion from a local bank.
SJB MP Harshana Rajakaruna who responded said the NPP national list too comprises of those who are connected to suicide bombers.

Need To Be Professional In Parliament Friday, 06 December 2024 05:51 PM
I fully support NPP but this kind of talk reminds us of past regimes! Need to quickly resolve issues and not these kinds of cheap debates. We all know the type of opposition the country has. Sincerely hope the tone use in parliament will be more professional and not what was seen with Wasantha. Issues will definitely crop up and MUST be quickly resolved within a certain timeframe. Hope AKD and HA will remind the team to behave professionally and resolve issues before they spiral out of control.

You are saying the mill owners cannot increase the price of rice.... if you go to the market, the prices of rice have been modified by the shopkeepers, keeri samba sale price 1300/= for 5kg, selling at 1500/=

How can a government can't find hidden rice in Polonnaruwa to find hidden asserts in a foreign country ? See they will not bring a single cent back to Sri Lanka. Just a set of talkers.

Taking legal action is not as simple as most people think. These powerful people have lawyers. They need to be done in a strategic way. You can't knock on people's doors and arrest them without credible evidence. Stop acting like a child.

Harshana Rajakaruna should understand that allegation to counter-allegation will never be justified the act of Rathna owner robbing the nation pushing the innocent people into hardships. SJBs are the blueprint of Dead UNP, therefore, corruption is their motto in the mmenifesto that was circulated during the election period. Therefore, kick out Rathna owner immediately, if not, SJB won't obtain votes in the upcoming local government election set in January 2025.

Nando Friday, 06 December 2024 06:43 PM
Instead of asking about SJB's national list why don't you use your powers as Minster of Trade and raid the mill owner's warehouse and get the hoarded rice released. And charge the man.

Wasantha is big talker. He did a big show in Galle Face showing the luxury vehicles and stating they will be auctioned. By evening the presidential secretariat announced all vehicles will be handed over to the respective ministries. He is a normal trade union guy who loves to create drama.

Yes, most probably 6 months. Funny thing is not even opposition parties or unions are making anything against the government but it is these npp jokers statements itself has backfired. If opposition parties and those whov voted understand that they were cheated and also comes out strong, these guys will have a worse time than Gota.

Just out of curiosity - is there any law in this country against a private citizen buy all the paddy they want and storing them as long as they want? Or even destroying them for that matter? These people are in business to make money not for altruism. You cannot make them sell their stocks, go and get them by force or stop them from buying. Without looking like an idiot in front of the public, just see what you can do about it. Apparently 73% of the stock is not held by these 'big four.' Why do you look into this and see where the problem is?

Of all the people in NPP- Wasantha is one of those I never cared. I remember seeing him talking to then CB governor Dr. Coomaraswamy, you can tell from the way he talked and behaved during that conversation, this is a guy who is so unprofessional has no idea of decency . Talking and behaving rowdy without an ounce of professional conduct.

Wasantha Samarasinghe please bring back USD 18 billion you said that Rajapakshas stole and taken to Uganda, please please. That will be enough to give food to your supporters free during your 5 year term. You can send Dilkushani as the head of Uganda delegation. To lower the cost, use the cargo ship for their travel to Uganda so you can make another media story saying you created a record by lowering international travel costs.

A classic example of private sectors failure to deliver under free market. From the cultivation to milling to retail sale, the whole process is owned by the private sector and they have failed to deliver to consumer. This is what will happen if energy sector is privatised. Consumers will be at the mercy of exploiters.
