The importance of mindfulness is expected to be taken to the international level through UNESCO and the United Nations, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.
While participating as the chief guest at the Global Mindfulness Conference held at the Kelaniya Nagananda Institute of Buddhist Studies campus, he said, "Currently, even in world-renowned medical schools, lectures are limited to 30% and more space is given for practical studies.
"With the participation of the heads of the university system in this country, we hope to make this transformative educational change.
"It was also revealed that in the final analysis, mental integration has a unique place in any educational transformation process based on the subject of science and technology.
"In the school system as well as in the field of higher education, by implementing the programme to develop students with proper mental integrity, they will be given opportunities to easily engage in the learning process and teachers to teach properly," he said.
The transformative change in education is expected to be done more efficiently and effectively, Minister Premajayantha said.
Accordingly, taking another step forward, Vesak Day will be celebrated in Paris on May 23 and information in this regard is expected to be submitted to the UNESCO, he said.
