Minister urges large-scale rice millers to release stock

Cabinet spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa urged large-scale rice millers to release their rice stocks, considering it as an essential duty.

As an alternative solution, the government has decided to import rice to address the shortage, working in collaboration with small and medium-scale rice millers.

Additionally, the government will intervene to implement sustainable measures to manage the rice issue in the country starting from the next season.

First and foremost, rice needs to be declared a staple mother and essential food of all Sri Lankans. Thereafter, it needs to be made a commodity that cannot be adulterated, inflated and profited above an amount of 10% of its cost, destroyed, hidden or stocked for the purpose of manipulating price and creating artificial scarcity. If found guilty, the prison terms should range from minimum 1 year to 15 years rigorous imprisonment. Dudley and all the rats will fall inline.

It is a national issue if the mill owners are not listening, confiscate the stocks of rice. Rice mill owners are draining our blood for theirs betterment

Sri Lanka Red raw rice is freely available in middle Eastern countries markets ,so why can't Govt.temporarily stop export until we are self sufficient.

Previous governments were in the pocket of the rice mill owners as there election campaign were mostly funded by the mill owners but this government has no fears to take them in to task
