Ja-ela - (Daily Mirror) - The body of the Police Constable, who went missing after leaping into a canal in Ja-ela during his attempt to arrest a suspect yesterday (23), was discovered today (24) in the lagoon area of Pamunugama, Negombo.

The incident unfolded when a suspect, attempting to evade a group of police officers, plunged into the canal in a desperate bid to escape arrest.

The pursuit took an unexpected and tragic turn when four police officers followed the suspect into the canal. It was during this attempt that one officer failed to resurface, prompting immediate concerns for his safety.

Poor Officer sacrificed his life for dedication to duty. Such people are scarce and leave us early. My condolences to his family. Government must make a compensation payment to his parents
