The she-elephant Seetha that received gun shot injuries at Mahiyangana, is believed to have more pellets near her lungs and in belly.

Senior Professor of the Veterinary Medical Faculty of Peradeniya University Asoka Dangolla told media it was not possible to decide on it precisely for want of scanning facilities in the country. Prof. Dangolla examined her condition before she was despatched from Kandy to Maharagama on Thursday (19).

He said a cartridge was removed from her body through surgery although the Wildlife Officers claimed that the Civil Security constable had used rubber bullets. He said there could be more pellets in her body but it was not possible to locate them for want of scanning facilities.

Prof. Dangolla said he would examine the elephant and provide treatment.
