More than 84,000 persons affected, death toll rises to 16

Colombo, June 3 (Daily Mirror) - More than 84,000 people from 21,353 families have been affected by the ongoing adverse weather conditions, bringing the total number of deaths to 16, Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Director Pradeep Kodippili said.

He said only six people were reported to have been injured during the situation and five persons had gone missing.

The deaths were reported from Ratnapura (5), Colombo (3), Matara (6) and Galle (2) districts from June 1.

Accordingly, people within eight districts have been affected and among them 77 have been sent to 77 safe locations.

A total of six houses were damaged completely and 1,214 houses were partially damaged.
