NPP has options to run government until Parliament dissolved: Anura Kumara

Colombo, September 4 (Daily Mirror)- Claiming that the National People's Power (NPP) will not violate the Constitution if elected on September 21, NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today the NPP will run the government as per the Constitution for one and half months until the Parliament is dissolved.

Addressing a rally in Divulapitiya, he said opposition politicians exert undue fear among the people and said there is no reason to be afraid.

He said as per the constitution, NPP has several options to run the government for the one and half months and added that he would dissolve Parliament as per provisions in the Constitution.

"After being elected, we will act according to the constitution. we will not violate the constitution. If we want, we can run the government by taking over all ministerial portfolios under President's purview for one and half months or run the government with four-member cabinet with one member appointed in place of me. Otherwise, we can form a care taker government. No one should be afraid. we will run the government as per the constitution," he said.

Dissanayake said more than two-third of MPs in current Parliament will not be re-elected for the first time in Sri Lanka's history.

He said however, he will appoint new Chairpersons and Director Boards for important government bodies such as CEB, CPC, Bank of Ceylon etc. on September 23 itself.
