Colombo, August 30 (Daily Mirror)- Claiming that the promise to increase government employees' salary by Rs. 25,000 is an utter lie, NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today the National People's Power (NPP) will increase government servants' salary every six months propotionate to the cost of living.
Speaking at the Development Officers' national convention, he said the government refused to provide a Rs. 25,000 increase citing insufficent funds when government servants resorted a strike demanding a pay hike a few months ago and said if President Ranil Wickremesinghe really wanted, he could do it even now.
"How can the government find money to increase salaries in January as promised? The government could not increase government employees' salaries one and a half months ago when they demanded a pay hike, claiming that there were no funds. This is a lie," he said.
He said the NPP has included in its election manifesto that the government employees will be provided with salaries every six months in propotionate to the cost of living.
"It is not an increment given on election time or when employees resort to strikes. It is an increment which will be given on a regular basis. The government must take care of government employees," he said

What about the non government employees who worked so hard to keep this economy going Are they exempt from cost of living expenses ?

If AKD does what he promises non governmental employers will fall in line. Today to engage labourer, a handy man to do some domestic cleaning work it costs Rs2500 a day and it is hard to find one. They earn more than the salary of some permanent employees

Paid accordingly Friday, 30 August 2024 07:25 PM
Labourers do more work, have skills, don't get a pension or benefits or equal opportunities. A country cannot run without day labourers and skilled workers. Hence, they deserve to get paid more than indispensable govt employees.

Expectation to do such and the government should control it sheer stupidity. Private enterprise work on the principles of supply and demand. Only thing an elected govt could do is to establish a minimum wage right across the island based on supply and demand. If an enterprise is not making a profit, do not expect them to pay more. Bonuses were one crazy practice we had, which the companies were expected to distribute irrespective of their profits.

Why was I not given increment? Friday, 30 August 2024 01:44 PM
"How can the government find money to increase salaries in January as promised?" Very good question Anura! How will you find money to give increment every six months? I am asking this question, because I got only Rs.6/- annual increment while in service. Did somebody cheated me?

Suppos IF the cost of living come down then will you reduce the salary. NOT PRACTICAL. This means, under your regime, COST OF LIVING IS EXPECTED TO GO FURTHER UP.

Don’t show your idiocy and ignorance. All developed countries have such salary increases to cover inflation rate. No reduction of salaries when inflation is going down because interest rates are adjusted for encouraging people to spend money. Don’t talk nonsense.

Nowhere in the world the salary of Govt's employees is increased every six months. This must be the joke of the year..! For example, in the United Sates, after a comprehensive assessment, the President may recommend an annual pay raise to Congress for Federal employees. The Congress may accept the President's recommendation or make its own proposal. After the Congress approves the pay raise, the President must then sign it into law. A 5.2% average pay raise for federal employees occurred in 2024, making it the largest pay raise for federal workers since 1980.

Resorted strike carried out not by the government servants but by you and your followers with the intention of collapsing the economy that restored by RW, again. Now the economy is recovering. Salary increase would only possible by RW who can face any challenges on behalf of government servants.

The government servants resorted to the trade union action not only with NPP members other party members also participated in the strikes being convened by the trade union leaders. Therefore you can’t point your finger at the NPP leadership. While the government servants were demanding salary hikes both JR and RP dismissed the government servants from their jobs. Even now RW is also about to hoodwink the government servants expressing false fledges. During the upcoming election the government servants will teach a good lesson to both RW and his former disciple SP by casting their votes

This proves that this man has never stepped into a salary branch of any Govt. department. And he wants to give salary increase every six months? Does he know the procedure involved to give a salary increment? How many signatures are required? How to make financial allocation? Will this bring down Lanka to Maldive level? No leaders, No rulers, No money?

Exactly. Similarly with his statement on prosecuting corruption, all these pay hikes were rejected by him recently claiming insufficient funds. Hope the voting population can judge for themselves how desperate he’s to hold on to the presidency which he has been eying for sometime. Always implementing policies and laws mostly benefiting himself and his cohorts.

Is he cracking a joke asking how the loser's are going to increase salaries by 25 thousand and from where they are going to get the money. But he is going to give salary increment every 6 months these are desperate last minute attempts to fool the public servants to cast the votes to them in the postal voting but they cannot be easily deceived by such cheap election propaganda (Chandha gundu)

What Ranil said is not lie. He said increase the cost of living allowance to 25,000. We Received 7,800 previously . He increased it up to 17,800 by 10,000 last year. Now he is telling to add another 7,200 to increase it to 25,000. He increased the basic salary in 2015 by 10,000. Due to very lower salary most of the government servants were not be able to apply bank loans. He is the only person who has done what he promised.

What a joke… is there any system in place to create or boost the revenue towards the government or the economy. Without increasing the revenue to the economy no point of increasing anyone’s wages or salaries. First need to implement or improve the economy then according to results then increase the human welfare etc. That’s the way the country where I’m living is governing. Please do not accept or in favour with those false statements or promises from anyone who wants to be a president or a politician. This is the last chance to select a best of the best man who wants to do the good for the country.

What nonsense to increase the salaries of government servants every 6 months.. Even developed countries will never increase salaries haphazardly since salary increases should include the total work force which includes, government servants, public servants and relief to other segments of workers plus the pensioners to ensure that inflation does not dent holes to these emoluments. All these increases should be done by proper planning as this could result in inflation with the the cost of living reaching unprecedented levels. Where did this fellow learn his economics these utterances shows what a medicore contender of the Presidency and some of the greatest economists like Adam Smith, Keynes, Marx etc maybe wanting to rise from their graves to have a glimpse of this new jockey. Comrade you are exposing your span cloth that's why the farmers kicked you out when you were the Agriculture Minister doing nothing to this segment of the society. Good riddance of bad rubbish!!!!!!!
