NPP to send letter of demand to Tissa Attanayake for making false statement

Colombo, August 20 (Daily Mirror)- The National People's Power (NPP) is to file a law suit against SJB MP Tissa Attanayake for making a false statement at a political rally in Mawanella, NPP politburo member Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said today.

He said Attanayake had told a political rally that NPP MP Harini Amarauriya had claimed that the Dalada Perahera will be stopped under an NPP government.

Dr. Jayatissa said it was a false statement made deliberately to create a wrong image of the NPP among the Buddhist people, and added that neither MP Amarasuriya nor any NPP member had made such a statement.

He challenged MP Attanayake to withdraw the statement and apologise to NPP MP Amarasuriya soon or the NPP will send a letter of demand to him tomorrow morning.

"We will not let this pass easily this time. We are discussing with our lawyers to send a letter of demand to him tomorrow morning. He has a few more hours to withdraw his statement and apologise to the NPP and MP Amarasuriya," he said.

Politicians and political parties should stop this farce of sending letters of demand to one another. Politicians are notorious for mud slinging and washing dirty linen in public. So what and who cares. Just grow up, deny and/or rectify the allegations where necessary, and go on with life.

Good to start suing anyone who gives false information. It’s a national security issue especially coming from a politician who people will believe easily. The police too must start a probe into such behaviour and arrest the person once investigations proofs it’s false and start court proceedings accordingly.

NPP is loosing floating voters rapidly as other parties have started the campaigns. NPP is getting exposed as they gained the trend sometime back as some got fed up with main political parties and it was not a momentum created by npp. So now these npp jokers are desperately trying to win those votes but more voters will understand that npp too is nothing new. Anura recently visited a rally on a luxury prado and he seems to be getting worse than other politicians.

Former Diyawadana Nilame, Nissanka Wijeratna recalled that JVP para-military ordered to stop Dalada Perahara- Kandy in 1989 compelling them to confine the Perahara only within Temple premises. This is not a big thing when considering JVP's past terrorist acts and their bogus patriotism during 2004 - 2009, also set the stage for Madamulana gimmicks after war victory. Now same unruly pro-Rajapaksha voters are with JVP and if they come to power this bankrupt country will certainly be divided.
