The National People's Power (NPP) secured four seats in the Matale District, while the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) won one seat.

Former MP Rohini Kaviratne is the district leader for the SJB in Matale. Former State Minister Rohana Dissanayake contested under the New Democratic Front (NDF), which also included former State Minister Premitha Bandara Tennakoon on its party list.

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) was led by former Dambulla Mayor Jaliya Opatha. The NPP's district leader was former Provincial Council Member Gamagedara Dissanayake.
