My Guess is! This is stepping stone to win parliamentary election and become the Prime Minister. That is their target. He has come forward to contest Presidential election to assert leadership of SLPP, though he knows he will loose the election. Their eyes are on the parliamentary elections.

This is exploitation of most our voters political illiteracy, supporting the continuation of family and generational politics instead of weighing properly good and bad done by them for the country. It’s true MR brought peace to the country though what they did after that is not acceptable at all, promoting a culture of corruption which has spread across worse than a cancer. Said that they are not Fully responsible for the bankruptcy as it was coming for a long time and Covid and financial consequences accelerated it. Voters at least now come to terms and vote for genuine leaders who got a vision and a mission for the country, not Namal!
