Colombo, August 06 (Daily Mirror) - National Organiser of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa will be named as the party’s presidential candidate tomorrow morning (07) as casino kingpin Dhammika Perera has pulled out of the race, SLPP founder Basil Rajapaksa confirmed to Daily Mirror a short while ago.

The Prince of pilfers has no chance. But he wants to raise up his status be a known presidential candidate in the future. But the defeat will rob that thought too!

Does this SOB seriously think he stands a chance. If anyone does vote for him - they desperate need their heads examined. Look at Bangladesh, they took a stand and kick out politicians.. Aragalaya swam in pools and sat on chairs and beds but these Rajas are still lead lavish lives and involved in politics... SAD SITUATION FOR SL

You will be surprised. We are a majority of sycopants who will vote for any baila song. Ignorance and poor knowledge have become trade marks of Sri Lankans.

This is because he was not prosecuted and let off the hook in all the cases. Thanks to RW. Ditch them both. What a sad country.

Any donkey should understand that then he would have supported Ranil. But Sri Lankans are special donkeys so they think what ever they want.

ex-UNPer Tuesday, 06 August 2024 09:04 PM
Ranil fully protected the Rajapakshas and the crooked MPs of that clan from prosecution - some of the most corrupt are already on his lap. This sudden SLPP decision bringing in a `also ran` candidate doesn't hog wash RW`s position.

Professional Advice Needed If Hung Elections Wednesday, 07 August 2024 03:31 AM
It’s all well orchestrated by spoiling the votes count. Eventually both Ranil and AKD will get the most votes but not the majority. It will be a hung elections and not sure how it will work in whose favour if such a situation happens? Need the professional to advise the public on this issue please.

It’s Well Orchestrated To Spoil The Votes Wednesday, 07 August 2024 03:45 AM
It’s all well orchestrated Lara. They are behind this plan to spoil the votes. If either gets elected, Ranil will somehow get into the system either as a President or PM to continue his mission for the next 5 years. By than he’ll be too old and will definitely step down and either the current President or PM will continue the mission as most citizens still will stick to these kind of messy politics as it’s beneficial somehow! Only a majority vote to AKD will upset their plan which is very challenging now as Sajith too has a following. The 4 major players- AKD, RW, SP and NR will get around 20 to 35 percent each unless the younger professionals go all out to vote AKD only.

Excellent! Two ex-presidents sons running for Presidents office is surely a world record. Such things happen only in Monkey Land. There is something radically wrong with this stone age politics of SL, or else we are all Monkeys to accept this absurdity.

Very Good Choice. No others can replace him For 3 generations His family has been robbing the country. He comes with experience of 3 generation. His grandfather robbed the country. his father robbed the country. his 3 uncles robbed the country. his aunt robbed the country and finally his cousins also robbed the country. As Sri Lankans we have no other better alternative than making him as our president.

No surprise Rajapakshe family will never give leadership to outsiders under any circumstances. Senior Rajapakshe hijacked the SLFP deviously from Bandaranaike family and made it their family birthright and now having a powerful hold that won't be easily parted with however inevitable changes cannot be avoided

Hey, dude! Let me tell you that you do not stand even a bat's chance in hell of becoming the president of Sri Lanka. Not now, not ever! The whole world is well aware of how you and your kith and kin stole so much from your homeland, that you bankrupted it! Man, the highest court in the land has ruled that your dad and uncles are responsible for this travesty. Need I say more? Right now, the best thing you could do for yourself is dig a hole in the ground and poke your head into it like the ostrich does.

Namal as presidential candidate is the "joke of Sri Lankan history" !!! I thought the absurdities in the current election period could not be topped !!! That was a false conclusion, Sri Lanka's politics can top even the most absurd !!! With Namal, a modestly-minded representative of the old corrupt ruling dynasty, the old "dark men" are reappearing in the political arena, as brazen as we know them !!! Since this type of politician is incapable of learning, the only hope that remains is that the voters have learned from it, drawn the right conclusions from the Rajapaksa/Wickremesinghe era and will destroy them with the ballot paper !!! On September 21st the country has the historically unique opportunity to radically change the political landscape, and with it the social structures too! But where are the "strong" men who can do that!???

Dhammika took them along the garden path, and having realised that he hadn't even a ghost's chance to win, dumped them! He probably promised a large sum of his hard-earned money to Namla Baby that he didn't need. Namal Baby will add this to a small fraction of the ill-gotten fortunes of his family and have a big splash for the fourth spot behind the Puppet Master Ranil. What a waste! Good Luck Mother Lanka! The people always get the leaders they deserve.

no hope Wednesday, 07 August 2024 07:35 AM
Dhammika was from the beginning in the SLPP road show. Most say that the `hard-earned` money you refer to is fully backed by a good portion of the same ill-gotten family fortunes you also refer to. With all this deception, you are right in the end that the people will get leaders who they deserve

This is a wild card. Whether anyone likes or not, the think tank behind all this drama of RW and SLPP split and now Baby King filing in nomination has some underline connections. Testing waters for sure, but win or loose the idea is simple be in contention to save the party, ego and mainly the source of generous income. For the mass who will go to the polling station only few things will matter, and one of that is majority show of strength, which is unfortunately fulled by racist ideologies fed by these very politicians. Sadly the country will not see actual development under anyone of these guys. But just propagated white elephants and loans to pay for the next 50 generations. And in Sri Lanka, they call it suba anaagatha!!!!

I hope minority people people will take correct decision from their bad experience of last Victorian decision of non performance former president GR.

Sri Lankan debt in 2010 was only 10b USD, after the war was over. In 2022 it was 100b USD. We know who robbed the country. New Kingpin will rob the country 10x if elected. Its all up to the masses who historically supported the Rajapaksas, whether they want to push the country into deeper abyss.

What a bad joke. Uneducated, controlled from outside, not knowing what the country and especially the people need, brought up with a silver spoon, grew up in a family that was selfish, manically striving for power, who instilled in him the dogma of a superior human being. I should really feel sorry for this miscarriage of humanity. But no, Namal lives in his reality. But his reality has absolutely nothing to do with a country that was led by his family, and therefore by him, into the biggest crisis since independence. A country that is slowly but still fragilely recovering from the abuse of power by the Rajapaksas, a country that wants to develop further, without corruption, without contract killings, without ethnic unrest, and above all without this family. This nomination, this family is a disgrace for Sri Lanka and puts the country on the level of any other rogue state (banana republic). What a pity!

The way I see it Basil wanted concessions for supporting RW. These concessions were refused. Not only refused Basil was told to get lost by the other factions supporting RW. They do not want their names be associated with Crows and Old Mynas. Therefore this is a face saving move. Since the rank and file have already declared their support to RW even Dammika backed out realizing it was a lost cause. Therefore it is worse than a lost cause. Now it will be interesting to see what Namal's platform would look like and weather anyone would actually vote for him. I guess there are some village idiots referred to as baiyyas who would.

Who cares because when the election results are out he will be an also ran candidate forefeiting his deposit. The public are depending on Sajith when he wins the Presidential election to appoint an independent investigation team to look into all financial transactions locally and abroad of this scoundrel and his proxies including the Rajapakse clan to bring all ill gotten funds from the Public purse back again. How can a diabolic liar hold a position of President when his father was admitted to Hospital he denied point blank it was not so when the media had proof of this and what will the answer be when the results of election are announced he will deny that he was not a candidate that contested!!!!!!!

He is only daydreaming that he will be the President. Also, Sajith and Anura should get this clear, by any chance they come into power and if they don't perform and full fill their promises the same thing which happened to Bangladesh Priminister will happen to them in a worst way.
