Namal praises armed forces’ rescue efforts; urges govt. to assist flood victims

While expressing regret over the tragic incident in the East last evening, where a tractor carrying children was swept away by floodwaters, SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa praised the efforts of the armed forces, who are at the forefront of rescue operations in flood-affected districts across the country.

"While several districts in Sri Lanka are flooded due to the effects of Cyclone Fengal, a brave salute goes out to the armed forces who are deployed in rescue efforts, saving lives. Their tireless efforts to keep citizens safe are always appreciated. However, it is with regret that I note the tragic incident in the East last evening, where a tractor carrying children was swept away by floodwaters. While five children and the driver were rescued, rescue efforts are ongoing to find eight others, including six children, who are still missing," he posted on X.

The MP urged the government to take immediate action to assist those affected, stressing the need for urgent relief and shelter for the thousands displaced by the floods.

The govt. must take immediate measures to provide urgent relief to the thousands affected and move them to safer shelters with food and facilities.
