Namal vows to resume Yal Devi to North
Colombo, August 28 (Daily Mirror)- SLPP presidential candidate Namal Rajapaksa today pledged to resume services on the Yarl Devi railway lines which have been halted for months due to inefficiency under the current administration.
He told the Daily Mirror that the Rajapaksa government had successfully established the Yarl Devi railway lines to the Northern Province after concluding the 30-year war.
"After concluding the 30-year war, our government successfully established the Yarl Devi railway lines to the Northern Province. However, these services have been halted for months due to inefficiency under the current administration," he said.
Rajapaksa said that his government is committed to taking immediate action to resume railway services to the Northern Province.
He also said they would expedite the completion of the 114 km Matara to Kataragama railway line without delay.

It is evident that India is deliberately stalling the project. Additionally, the ferry service initiated by India in August, as well as the flight service operated by an Indian company, reflect India's involvement in these endeavors. The railway track project was expected to be completed by June, yet it remains unfinished. It is apparent that India may be playing a double game. India may be delaying it so that diaspora travel via Chennai to Nallur and not through Colombo. This will affect flights to Colombo from western countries, hotel bookings in Colombo, Air or train travels from Colombo to Jaffna and back. Indian businesses must be influencing it.

Are you making any sense? The current government is SLPP and that's yours Namal baby. The services suspended to carry out repair is what we are told but what we are not told was, the politicians are running luxury bus services charging a whopping Rs 3500 one way and this will stop if the train services begin. If you don't understand this reason, you are in an utopian world.

Matara to Kataragama rail track was the talk when M H Mohamed was Transport Minister in 1977. Is it still not implemented ? This is why we need a totally new leadership who have previously not been head of state or government or come from families who held such posts. A total system change is required. Only then we can have trams like in London and Sydney.

YOU WERE PART OF THAT GOVERNMENT!!?? Your government didn't want something initiated by Yahapalanaya TO SUCCEED!!?? Unpatriotic, Anti-National Attitude!?? Relaying of train track project was to be completed in June and now it is August. Srilanka railways is going to lose revenue especially when 50,000 devotees to attend annual Nallur festival in Jaffna. Our government appears to be clueless on this disaster and only focused on the presidential election. Inefficiency rides high with Harin Fernando former minister of Tourism.

Looks like he doesn't even know why the train service on the northern line was stopped It was stopped for re laying of tracks from Maho to Anuradhapura under Indian assistance. Currently the work is almost completed. They are fixing the signal system now and once it's over the service will resume....even before presidential election.

The track delayed due to local politicians interference. They own the lucrative coach services to the North. Once the train services begin corruption in the bus service will stop, prices will come down we hope.
