Colombo, November 30 (Daily Mirror)- Naval and fishing communities have been warned not to venture out to deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankesanthurai until further notice.
The Meteorology Department said the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankesanthurai will be rough to very rough as the wind speed can increase up to 60- 70 kmph at times while very heavy showers or thundershowers are likely at some places in these areas.
Swell waves of about 2.5–3.0 m in height may increase in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Galle, the Department said.
It said the cyclonic storm 'Fengal' over Southwest Bay of Bengal was located about 280 kms North of Kankesanthurai and 420 kms north of Trincomalee at 02.30 p.m. on November 30 and is likely to move west-north-westwards and cross the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts as a cyclonic storm around November 30 evening.
However, the influence of this system on the island's weather is gradually reducing.
Several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western and North-Central Provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
