A new Cabinet of Ministers will be sworn in today, National People's Power (NPP) MP Vijitha Herath said.

He told the media that the President has called for a discussion today after the swearing in of the Cabinet to discuss the dissolving of Parliament.

The NPP earlier said a Cabinet of four Ministers will be appointed by the President today.

NPP better tread wisely! If the opposition (SJB, UNP) and others somehow manage to work together just to topple the NPP, and people vote along party lines (they pretty much did that for the just concluded presidential election), the opposition just may manage to get 2/3 of the parliament seats. If that happens, they can move a no-confidence motion against AKD, get rid of him, and elect one of their own as the president. Then, all the hopes of, and efforts by, the suffering masses will come to nought! NPP, tread wisely!

This government will be almost care taker government. Because newly appointed president wants to reboot the essential functions like security finance and vital entities. This will be valid until the new government is formed. However the NPP should harness to increase its vote base at least up to 7.5 millions in order to obtain the 2/3 majority in the parliament to fulfil the pledges what they have mentioned in their manifesto

15 ministerial posts for 4 people. This will easily go to 30 when NPP has 120 mps. Same as Ranil's cabinet.

Switzerland, a powerful country in the world, has only 7 cabinet ministers. Germany, which has an economy of 4 trillion dollars, has only 16 cabinet ministers. Our small country does not need a large number of cabinet ministers. Government officials do the day today ground level work in those government departments anyway. Cabinet ministers should only provide the necessary "direction" to the departments.
