@@ all those who say they should not make such appointments; I totally agree with you. NPP MUST select supporters and MPs of SLPP to fill these positions.

Very glad that a non-SLAS Officer appointed this Apex post in the Public Service. Country is in current situation, not mainly due to the corrupt politicians!!!!

Don't just occupy a seat, but make a contribution with skills. If no skills, just leave.

Isn’t this is nepotism?. The first appointment is to the university batch mate and best friend who is a junior deputy Director in the custom? This can be the start of the decline, stick to your promises. The guys who criticised left and right for others about treating the family and friends, starting the first appointment with nepotism. What is the fate of senior public servants?

You need someone from inside to do the cleaning. SL custom is the first place to clean up.

The President has to explain why he appointed his class/room mate who is not from the Sri Lanka Administrative Service for this important post. If it is a matter of trust, we can understand. However it is part of nepotism which you promised not to be a part of and insulted the previous regimes.

I bet the same people voted Anura will criticize him sooner than expected, it is very hard to change Sri Lankan political culture soon

Please stop appointing your friends and batch mates when we voted we didnt expect this from you.
Also Sri Lanka customs is most corrupt organisation their commission culture is quite detrimental to young business community and expatriate workers how can you cleanse this organisation from corruption when you appoint this Guy from customs as your secretary.
Really a very bad move hugely disappointed even before have strated your work.

"This guy" is way above you. He served in the Customs and saw the corruption because Dr. Kumanayake had previously served as the Deputy Director of Sri Lanka Customs, focusing on research areas such as Corruption and Integrity in Customs, International Trade, and Development Economics.
He holds a Phd in Development Economics. He did not serve in those areas of the Customs as field officers who engage in corruption in handling imports.

Don't anticipate healings. We are on the same path that led to Gota's demise. SLAS should designate someone to this role. However, this is also a product of unscrupulous behaviour and nepotism.

Give some time to settle down. He or they would have already had plans whom to be appointed.
People democratically chose him and it’s his responsibility to do the job.
When Sanga goes to open his innings he does his job. The coach doesn’t tell what stroke to play.
Let’s hope all including opposition give him best support and put things through in this stormy ocean.
All the best Mr. President.

Well said Nawaz, you hit the nail on its head. I’m sure NPP had earmarked people with suitable competencies for critical positions, such as this one. They will be allowed to do their job without interference from their NPP political officials, which they said they”ll not do. Unfortunately, most people don’t even read policies. They either vote for change blindly or make silly comments just to have a swipe.
